Definitely Fun!!

Well I flew Monday of this week, and felt a little better. I flew 5.6 hours today, with a different instructor, and it was great! I can now do 3 point landings on my own. Tomorrow we work on wheel landings, which he says are hard, but I'm ready. The plane is fun, and we have had a lot of people stop by to admire it. Just something about a Luscombe.

Fun?

Yes it's fun, but a challenge. Did not fly today, low ceilings, and cfi had trouble. I took Mom on a taxi to fill the plane up at the self service. Of course, I flooded the engine and stood there in full view of everyone in the restaurant trying to hand prop the plane. After much angst, I pushed it back to the tie down, 3 hangers away. At which point it promptly started. We then taxied around for a while. We are back in San Jose for Christmas.

1st flight

Well, I got my first flight in the luscombe today. A very humbling experience!! It is very touchy. Did slow flight, stalls, then did some take offs and landings. It will take some work to master this!! We are supposed to fly tomorrow, if weather permits.

Finally!

Well, I started the plane and taxied it yesterday. A lot easier to start than I thought, never hand propped before. Was suppose to fly at 11:00 today, but had low overcast. It has cleared up now, and Mike, the cfi, is on his way. We will see how it flies!!

Almost reedy to fly!

Weather was better today, so we went to a park on the bay to take some pictures.  We saw a lot of birdlife, and some great scenery!

Flying

Well I got to do some flying yesterday, despite the weather. I had to change my destination, the weather was ifr where I wanted to go. So, I flew to Frederick, and had breakfast. Then flew over Mike's and then to martisburg. I got to see the C5s the air national guard keeps there. They are huge! A little over a 3 hour flight, so not bad with the weather.

Life continued

Well, I bought a small plane. A 1941luscombe 8b. The problem is it is in Ca., and I must go out and fly it back! It is a long journey in a small plane, but quite an adventure!! Right now things are very hard for me, the season is making things very difficult. I am just trying to stay busy and keep my sanity. I have been at least partially successful. I need to do some turning, just can't seem to go in my shop. I am looking forward to the flight back in a small plane.

Life

Well, it has been a while since I posted. But, I am going to try to start posting with more regularity. Several things have happened. Corrine's celebreation was even better than I could have hoped for! The quilt guild brought out all the quilts that Corrine had been involved with, and Jacqeline and her Husband hung them all up for everyone to see. Corrine's Mom did several picture collages and hung them up. It was wonderful. Over 75 people came, we had barbecue, and celebrated her life!! Which is what she would have wanted. I went to Florida cavern diving, met Dori and the crew, and had a very nice time. I have been taking flying lessons, and now have my pilots license. I took Mike flying yesterday, we flew to Frederick, and had breakfast. Then, we flew over Harpers Ferry, and up the river over Mike's house. I have taken some camera courses at community college, and that has helped keep me busy. That's all for now, there is more, but later.

Moving forward

Well, life does go on. Sometimes I wonder how, but it does. I have been taking care of all the things that you have to take care of in this situation. So much paperwork!!But, I have managed to get out diving twice. Once at lake Habeeb, at Rocky Gap state park. Then in Lake Erie. Saw 2 nice wooden wrecks in erie. I'm trying to get things together for a celebration of Corrine's life on August 21st, a lot to do.

Saddest day of my life!!

On may 8th I lost my life partner & my wife in a diving accident. One moment my world is proceeding along better than I could have ever imagined, the next my world was gone. Corrine was the center of my life, we loved, we fought, we shared everything. She died doing something she loved! The world has suddenly became a very lonely place.

A little diving, a lot of turning!!

I've only been diving once since new years. I did a chilly willy at Millbrook. We were supposed to go to Florida cavern diving last weekend, but everything is flooded so we called it off. But I have been doing a lot of woodturning. A lot of pens, wine stoppers, spurtles, and some bowls. With the weather being what it is, just getting to my shop in the backyard has required a lot of digging. But, once there I got a lot of turning done.

New Years dive at Mt. Storm!

Corrine and I went up early to check conditions. All the roads were fine, and it was 34 degrees. But, the parking lot was terrible, 4-wheel drive only!! We called everyone, and told them it was a go. We had planned on eating at the Stained Glass, but it was closed, so we headed to the Chat & Chew. We arrived back at the lake just before the others only to discover that there were two other divers gearing up in the parking lot. It had started snowing lightly, but just a light breeze. We set up the canopy, put the walls on it, and set up the stoves for soup, chili, and hot chocalate. Everyone started to gear up, and get wet. Just as Corrine and I were getting ready a large gust blew up and picked up the canopy and deposited it on our heads. It didn't hurt us, but it knocked my tanks off of the tailgate onto the ground. Which resulted in one bent valve, and a destroyed canopy!! Still it was a great day, and a good dive. By the time we were leaving, the temp had dropped to 24 degrees, and it was snowing heavily. We had a great day, 6 of us went up, and 5 of us dove. Mary was surface support, and it was great having someone hand us hot chocalate when we had dropped our tanks. THANKS MARY!!
